WINTER WONDERLAND

While the Leicester Study Tour is at the height of summer, Wythall's is in the bleak midwinter! And with snow a couple of days before Saturday 19 December, essential attire included hats, scarves, gloves and thermal underwear. Nevertheless it was all worthwhile, for the destinations were Roger Burdett's collections of preserved vehicles at Corley and Uttoxeter.

With Phil Ireland at the wheel of the BMMO CM6T and Kevin Hill in charge of the BMMO S16, the party left Wythall for Corley, where Roger was waiting, not only with his incredible collection of vehicles, but also tea, coffee and bacon rolls to warm everyone up!

After ninety minutes at Corley (or may we call it "Aladdin's Bus Depot", for 'tis the panto season?), the party, now accompanied by Roger's BMMO C5, set off for the complex of barns in the hinterland of Uttoxeter, where he keeps several more of his vehicles, alongside other collections from Derby, the Potteries and elsewhere in the Midlands. Some buses we saw that day had maybe only been encountered in books or photos hitherto.

Many thanks to Roger for his invitation, and his hospitality and generosity on the day. He has such an extraordinary collection of vehicles and everybody was most impressed with the facilities he has.
